CAPE CORAL, Fla. — The City of Cape Coral will discuss the Bimini Basin’s future in the Cape.
City staff will meet with the C-R-A board to present their ideas on Wednesday morning. The design project will go to the council for a vote.
They have a design idea for a mooring field, essentially a parking lot for boats.
Boaters will be assigned a spot and can secure their boat to a buoy to keep it in place.
The city wants to put 15 buoys in the Bimini basin water.
But before they do that, they must get all the sunken boats out of the way.
Robert Keating hopes to beautify the basin, meaning the boats that sank after Hurricane Idalia will be removed soon.
“I love this place, but this is becoming a little bit of a disaster, so we need to take care of this. We have a boat show coming up, which everyone enjoys, and when they come to our parks, they don’t want to see this,” said Keating
The design phase will take about six months to complete, and the project is expected to cost about half a million dollars.
