LELY, Fla. — The Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) is asking for public help after human remains found last year have been identified.
Deputies say the skeletal remains found in the woods behind Myrtle Lane in the Lely area of Collier County were identified as Sean M. Morgan by DNA match.
According to CCSO, two men found the remains while walking around the canal near the woods, and detectives say they were likely there for months.
Florida Gulf Coast University worked with detectives to determine that the cause of Morgan’s death was a homicide.
No arrest has been made at this time and help is needed to find the killer, CCSO said.
Morgan’s family said he has been homeless since 2012, has a learning disability and has suffered from substance abuse.
Morgan frequently visited the East Naples-Bayshore Drive area and Fort Myers Beach, according to his family.
Family members last had contact with Morgan in September 2021, right before his birthday, which they say was unusual.
The family requested a welfare check on Morgan after Hurricane Ian; however, he was never located.
CCSO is asking anyone with information to call 239-252-9300 or to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward, contact Crime Stoppers at 1.800.780.TIPS (8477).
